Aussies in a Commanding Position against Kiwis at the End of Day 3, 2nd Test Print E-mail

Rating 2.3/5 (3 votes)

There were two major contributors with the bat for Australia today, on day three of the second test match: Michael Clarke made 110 and Brad Haddin made 169. In his eventful innings, Haddin stroked 24 boundaries and two sixes as well. His fluent innings would certainly send the message that here is someone who yet may fill the shoes of Gilchrist. The Aussies made 535, giving them the considerable 270 run lead over New Zealand’s first innings score. At the end of the day’s play, New Zealand was 35 for no loss.

As per our cricket update from Circket360 yesterday, Australia looked pretty solid at the end of day two, however today, at the end of day three, they look to be in a positively commanding position, with a 265 run lead over their opponents New Zealand.

Day three of the second test being played at the Adelaide Oval hardly had a very promising start for the Australian hosts when they lost early wickets and the overnight live scoreboard of 241 for 3 was transformed to 247 for 5, when the New Zealanders managed to take early wickets in the morning.

Michael Hussey, who played the sheet anchor role yesterday to steady the Aussie innings, fell to Chris Martin adding just one run to his overnight score of 69. Andrew Symonds seems to be battling his demons both personally and professionally, as he departed without scoring a single run. Both early wickets were claimed by Martin in the third over of the morning’s live cricket.

There were two major contributors with the bat for Australia today, on day three of the second test match: Michael Clarke made 110 and Brad Haddin made 169. Haddin as the top scorer for his side showed that here, perhaps was a worthy successor to Adam Gilchrist after all. For once the talented Clarke looked outclassed, with his teammate looking more relaxed, in control and at his ease during his knock of 169 which made for some entertaining live cricket. This may just be a defining innings for Haddin, who was playing his ninth game. In his eventful innings, Haddin stroked 24 boundaries and two sixes as well. His fluent innings would certainly send the message that here is someone who yet may fill the shoes of Gilchrist.

It was just as well that Clarke and Haddin did a good job for the hosts because the rest of the batsmen failed to make too much of an impact. However their collective efforts pushed the Aussie score to 535, giving them the considerable 270 run lead over New Zealand’s first innings score.

There was just enough time for the Kiwis to start their second innings and make 35 runs without losing a wicket before the end of the day’s play. Aaron Redmond and Jamie How were at the crease at the personal scores of 15 and 13 respectively.

Though there are two more days to go, and cricket is the game of glorious uncertainties, we at Cricket360.com would place our money on the Aussies winning this one as well, making it a clean sweep for the Trans Tasman Cup.
