Cashing on the growing popularity of Indian cricket, a New Jersey City, Edison has offered a plot of land to the Indian Cricket Board to construct a cricket stadium.

Rajiv_Shukla.jpgThe city of Edison is home to about 30,000 US-settled Indians who follow cricket religiously and looking at the escalating popularity of the game in the city, Edison Mayor Jun H Choi has made this offer to the visiting BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla.

Shukla, who was recently in US as part of Indian delegation to the UN, was known to have given some positive feedbacks which prompted Choi to work on a formal proposal which can be send to the BCCI.

According to the initial details of the proposal, BCCI will have to bear the construction cost and maintenance of the stadium, while the land would be provided by the city free of cost.

A few plots of land have already been figured out for the proposed stadium and if the BCCI gives a go ahead, it could very well provide yet another neutral venue for international cricket matches, a reliable source said.
