It is not solely the ambition of beating Indians in the test series that made the English side come back and resume the tour. So what is that motivated England’s players to return to India in the aftermath of Mumbai Attack? Read it on the pages of Cricket360.com.
International Cricket in the recent times has been shrouded in several controversies. But today international cricket has hogged the limelight for different reason altogether. Cricket news got to focus on the other side of the game and that is the humanitarian face of the cricketers. The England team is not only coming back, they are going to donate half their match fees from the first Test against India to the Mumbai blast victims. The money is as big as 35, 000 pounds and will go to help the families of some 200 victims, who were killed in the attack. It took them two weeks to decide whether to come back to a terror-stricken country and at the end, the decision was affirmative. The England team fared miserably in the ODI series of the last month and the two match Test series is giving them the second chance to strike back. But it is not just cricket; England’s decision to resume the Test series has greater significance. English team’s return signifies the players’ open support for the innocent people that lost their lives in the tragic event; it also signifies the support for a nation that is a victim of international terrorism. By deciding to return to India in the aftermath of terror attack, they send across an important message; that when it comes to fight against terrorism, all nations share bonding in giving a good fight to it. The statement, read out by the England opener, Alastair Cook , reflected the general mood of the English team. “It was something that everyone wanted to get across because as a side we felt we wanted to do it.” He added that they had elaborate discussion with their security advisor and came to the conclusion that there is no reason to get stressed over anything but upcoming cricket. And that was it; England is going to face Dhoni’s boys once again. However, there are others who have hinted that it is not the humanitarian cause as such, but the lure of big money that India’s league cricket has to offer to the foreign cricketers, that have made England team resume the tour. But then when was international cricket free of the skepticals? Big applauds from the Cricket360 team for the gesture of England side. Thumbs up for Dhoni too, who had earlier pledged fees from both the Test matches for the similar cause.
