Cricket360 Review of the first test match between India and England being played at Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. England had agreed to play the two Test matches with India, defying the terror attack situation. The stadium looks like a fortress with commandos keeping an eye on every movement. England started the inning with a slow start, opener Strauss (123) and Cook (52) had given a good base to the scorecard. There are changes in both the team side. The cricket score at the end of first day is 229 for 5 wickets.

India England test match began at the M A Chidambaram stadium today on 11th December 2008. Amongst all odds of terror attack, England agreed to play two test match series in India after a through security check of the situation. The match started on time with England winning toss and elected to bat first, as the pitch seemed to be a batting track. Cricket stadium was deserted off spectators, hardly 1000 spectators turned up in a 45000 capacity stadium, reason being tight security allowing no mobiles, water bottles, and food packets on the ground. Both teams had made changes, with Monty Panesar, spinner and Matt Prior, wicket keeper making their way in England team; for Indian team, names which flashed in cricket breaking news were Yuvraj Singh replacing Sourav Ganguly and opener Gautam Gambhir returned to Test cricket after a one match ban on disciplinary ground.

Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma took charge of the opening bowling, opener Strauss and Cook could not take a flying start as expected on the batting pitch, there were appeals from Zaheer khan in the initial overs. Not high cricket scores ticking the board; low attendance was making the match boredom to watch. A surprise came with Harbhajan called into attack in the 8th over. After an hour’s play, cricket scoreboard was 26 runs in 13 over. In the cricket news, a change reflected was Amit Mishra replacing Harbhajan in 19th over. At the end of 27 overs live score was 63/0, and just 6 boundaries were scored, showing the Cautious play to give a solid start for the England.

Harbhajan was called back into attack and he took the wicket of Cook (52) in 40th over. But Strauss was standing rock solid on the opposite side, looking forward to play a great inning. Indian team got charged up with the wicket and wanted to create pressure on batsmen. Yuvraj and Sehwag were called for bowling; it didn’t work out for Dhoni. Zaheer was called back to bowl and on the second ball of his fresh spell, took the wicket of I Bell (17) at 164/2 in 58th over.  Zaheer changed the cricket scorecard once again in 66th over sending Pietersen (4) back to pavilion with score at 179/3.

The batting pitch suddenly looked like bowling pitch, with good support received by Khan. The bowling underwent a change with Harbhajan and Ishant Sharma coming into attack, Harbhajan struck in 72nd over with the wicket of Collingwood (9) changing the cricket live score to 195/4. As the first test cricket match moving towards the end of day one, Amit Mishra struck in the 84th over, taking off a well settled player Strauss (123) at the cricket score 221/5. Khan and Mishra managed England team under 250 runs. England will resume day 2 at 229 for 5 wickets. England played a tortoise speed game on such a delightful pitch.
