Cricket360 Review of the Day 1 of 2nd Test Match between India vs. England at PCA Stadium in Mohali. India after winning the toss in the morning opted for batting and it was forecasted to be another run fest considering the present form of the Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

Everyone was hoping to a watch another tantalizing performance from Sehwag but Cricket fan’s desires were short-lived as Sehwag got out for a duck by a beauty bowled by Broad and caught by Matt Prior guarding behind the stumps.

Losing such an early wicket and that also the prized wicket of inform batsmen Virender Sehwag created a wave of uncertainty for Indian batsmen and Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. A good partnership was a required in order to compensate for the loss of Virender Sehwag.

In walked Rahul Dravid who has been under a lot of criticism owing to his bad performance and dismal performance in the past. Dravid did show some sign of nervousness initially but soon regained his calm composure. Gambhir on the other hand continued his dream run with a well deserved half century.

Dravid too by that time had become confident and showed his defensive side. Both the top order batsmen then held their grounds and did not give any chance to the England bowlers. Gambhir in the end reached his century and Dravid after a long dry patch in his carrier made a slow but steady half century.

But both the players played pretty slow and only managed to sustain a weak run rate of 2.5 by the end of the day. Though India didn’t lose any wickets after Losing Sehwag both Gambhir and Dravid played too slow even for a test match. By the End owing to bad light Umpires called it a day with India just reaching a cricket score of 179 fow1. India on the 2nd day has to raise the tempo if they want to get a result of this test match.

Overall it was a good day for Indians in a sense that they did not lose any wicket other than Sehwag and as for England they managed to restrict India to only 179. Cricket360.com expects an aggressive start on day 2 by India to make sure that they score quickly and gets England into bat as soon as possible. The bottom line for India is get a score of 500 runs and see through the English Wickets twice without batting themselves in the second innings of the match.

Aakash  - Well Done Dravid!   |2008-12-19 19:39:48
This was a welcome innings by Dravid and he should be having a sound sleep
today. Its understandable that the run-rate was little towards the lower side,
but then again, that gave Dravid the time he required to spend on the middle,
and set up a good foundation.

Tomorrow, we are going to witness a much
accelerated performance, and hope to end the day with 500 runs (another 321
runs, not a big deal, considering Sachin, Yuvi Lax, and Dhoni yet to come).

Is
going to be a great weekend, this!
