Just like the current global economy operates through the mechanism of market economy and in defiance of any centralized control, encourages competition among individual enterprises, the world of cricket is sensing a kind of centrifugal tendency in international cricket stars and the element that  -  as conservative cricket followers believe - is filling them up with such power to defy is Indian Premier League. Courtney Walsh recently spoke about his love for the game of cricket which is undimmed even at 46; so many years after retiring from international cricket. He was quoted in the cricket news as saying that cricket should not all be about the money; that pride and wanting to do well for yourself and your country should come first. He was positive about West Indian cricket which looked more focused and professional. Walsh also said that he was a fan of Windies skipper Chris Gayle.

Paul Collingwood fears for the future of test cricket. With the fast soaring popularity of Twenty20 cricket, Collingwood believes that if something isn’t done about it quickly, test cricket is going to be one of the last choices for an aspiring cricketer. Also the pay cheque for a Twenty20 match is far higher than that of a test match; Collingwood fears that unless the pay-gap is narrowed, test cricket might fade away.
