Gayle is the new number one; slipping down one step our captain cool sits tight at number 2. Who else made it up the ladder and who slipped - Cricket360.com brings you the breaking news on the latest ODI ranking.
The release of Reliance Mobile ICC ODI ranking triggers off a reshuffle in the list of batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders. The international cricket gets its new number one batsman in Chris Gayle. The West Indies captain topples Dhoni who slips down to the number 2 position. With a cool 803 points in his kitty, the 29 years old cricketer from Jamaica not only swipes away the top spot in the list of ODI batsman, he has also been placed fourth in the all-rounder’ ranking with an impressive 336 points. It is his brilliant performance against New Zealand and amassing of impressive cricket score in the series that earned this left handed batsman this coveted title. Gayle had to wait for five long years to reclaim the top spot; it was in April 2004, that he was for the last time declared the number one. However, he had never been out of the top twenty since then. But Dhoni fans over there - no need to get upset. The upcoming cricket series against Sri Lanka is just round the corner, and in Cricket360’s opinion, the Indian skipper will have enough opportunities to showcase his skills in this forthcoming series and reclaim the top slot once again. The only Indian other than Dhoni who could make it to the top ten batsmen’s list was Yuvraj Singh, who slipped one spot to become world’s number six. However bagging 708 points, Sachin managed to stick to the 12th place. Ricky Ponting too managed to retain his position at number seven with 740 points. It did not turn well for South African skipper Graeme Smith who slipped down two places to finish off at number five. In all probability, he will be out of the team in the upcoming cricket series against Australia due to injuries and that is not going to do any good for his ODI ranking, at least in the near future. In fact, his ranking is likely to get worse even further. Now coming to the bowling side, here also international cricket got its new number one. New Zealand skipper Vettori gave way to Australia’s Nathan Bracken to slip down to number two position. The only Indian bowler who could make it to top twenty was India’s Zaheer Khan; with 660 points he has been placed at number ten along with West Indies’ J. Taylor. The all-rounders list looks even grimmer for the Indians - none from Indian side makes it to all-rounder top ten list that is currently topped by New Zealand’s Jacob Oram. Here comes Cricket360’s comprehensive list of the top rankers - batsmen, bowlers as well as the all-rounders: Top 10 Batsmen: Chris Gayle West Indies MS Dhoni India Mike Hussey Australia Shivnarine Chanderpaul West Indies Graeme Smith South Africa Yuvraj Singh India Ricky Ponting Australia Kevin Pietersen England Mohammad Yousuf Pakistan Andrew Symonds Australia Top 10 Bowlers: Nathan Bracken Australia Daniel Vettori New Zealand Muttiah Muralitharan Sri Lanka Mitchell Johnson Australia Kyle Mills New Zealand Nuwan Kulasekara Sri Lanka Stuart Broad England Sohail Tanvir Pakistan Andrew Flintoff England Jerome Taylor & Zaheer Khan West Indies/India Top 5 All-Rounders: Jacob Oram New Zealand Andrew Flintoff England Shoaib Malik Pakistan Chris Gayle West Indies Jacque Kallis South Africa
