In the recent years, Indian cricket scenario - both at domestic as well as national level - seems to come closer to politics. The whole cricket controversy relating to Lalit Modi’s misappropriation of RCA’s funds has a political angle. Cricket360.com delves deeper into the issue.
The latest cricket controversy hitting the domestic cricket relates to the high profile cricket personality of the country Lalit Modi. In addition of being the president of RCA, he also happens to be the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The accusation is: misappropriation of Rs22 Lakh of the RCA’s money. The case was filed by one of RCA member, Anil Sekhawat. The person is a retired cricketer. He reportedly filed a case against Lalit Modi in the local Jyotinagar police station. Mr. Sakhawat claims that Modi misused money amounting to some Rs22 lacs. The booty was a part of Rs. 7 crore that RCA received from Indian cricket board. He alleged that Modi used his influence to take away the money which he spent on buying tickets for personal use during the World Cup 2007. The police says that it has taken the matter quite seriously and has taken the necessary steps. Investigations are on and police has been handed over all the necessary documents and proof by the accuser. However, police informed media that FIR has not yet filed against the RCA president. Once they finish their discussion with other Rajasthan cricket board officials, then they will think bout the FIR question. But Modi brushed aside the whole allegation as rubbish. He says that it is a plot against him and he is not prepared to even give a consideration to these types of baseless allegations. He says that he was the person who bought crores for the Indian cricket Board, as well as the Rajasthan Cricket Association. He adds that he does not even think it worthwhile to bother about such a small amount of money. In Cricket360’s opinion, it has something to do with the change of power that took place in the state recently. That Vasundhara Raje Scindia is no longer the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Ashok Gehlot, the new CM is not actually a friend of Modi, and the political angle is hard to miss in the entire cricket controversy. Police needs more proofs to file a solid case against Modi, but in the absence of Ms Scindia, it will be interesting to see how the things shape up or rather flare up.
