It belonged to the Australian cricket team for long---since 2001, when the ICC Test ranking was introduced for the first time. For eight long years---with a brief intermission of three months when South Africa claimed them for a short while---the jewel studded gold and silver mace shaped trophy adorned the office of Cricket Australia. But now ICC has asked the champs to return the million dollars worth Champion’s trophy to Dubai.
The Australian cricket team is about to start for South Africa, where it will be decided whether the Aussies will still rule the international cricket as the best Test team. But the international governing body of cricket seems to be almost sure that Australia will fall from the grace and so decided that it would be more prudent for them to take the trophy in safe custody well in advance. And so it is the ICC’s Dubai office where you can currently find the trophy sitting pretty. Where it is destined to go from here is still unknown to the world of cricket.
But Cricket Australia spoke person, Peter Young is confident that Aussies will perform well enough in the upcoming cricket series in South Africa so that they can bring back the trophy home. After all, the trophy remained the central focus in the architecture of CA’s office in Melbourne. In the worst case if the boys fail to make it to the top once again, then the Board will order a replica to fill up the void in their office décor, said Mr. Young disclosing the Australian cricket board’s plan.
The Upcoming South Africa Test series will pick up the next best team in the international cricket. The exit of the trophy ahead of the time can be an inkling of the tough times ahead that the Australian cricket team is going to face in the upcoming days. But in
Cricket360’s opinion, it will be other way round; the departure of the trophy would actually boost up the determination of the players. After all it is the question of reclaiming something that belonged to you for eight long years. Though the team seems to wobbling with the absence of some of its ardent soldiers, Australian team will definitely fight with tooth and nails to bring back the coveted trophy.
