Chappell Says the Final Goodbye Print E-mail
Pitched By Cricket360 Investigator

Greg Chappell refuses to have any association with Indian Cricket after opener Virender Sehwag accuses him of compromising on the privacy of Player-Coach discussions. Sehwag feels that Chappell not only tried to force players to change their playing styles but also disclosed all their discussions to media and Board too. Chappell in response has decided to severe all ties with RCA and IPL’s Jaipur Franchise.

Greg Chappell still manages to ruffle feathers in the Indian cricket world long after having finished his services. This time he has vowed not to have any ties with Indian Cricket, apparently as an angry retort to the flamboyant opener Virender Sehwag’s patronizing comments. Though not the team coach anymore, Chappell was associated with the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) as a consultant. He was also involved with the Indian Premier League’s Jaipur franchise for spotting and grooming talent. With this recent spate of development, it seems that the Indian local teams will now suffer the brunt of Sehwag’s quick tongue.

Sehwag drew parallels between the former Indian Coach Gregory Chappell and the Present Coach and Former South African Batsman Gary Kirsten. He remarked that while Kirsten "doesn’t force things on you", Chappell intended to bring about changes in his batting style. "He had his view on my front-foot play, my footwork." That wasn’t all. The real problem Sehwag seems to have with the former coach is the breach of players’ trust. Quoting Sehwag, “The thing with him was that whatever you shared with him, it was promptly disclosed to media and selectors. He talked and that hurt the trust.”

Chappell has taken offence to this statement. In his reply, he has asked the media to go and question Kiran More (Chief Selector for the most part of his tenure) about the details he let out during his tenure. When the Australian team landed in India last November, similar accusations and apprehensions were raised on Chappell’s threatening stance as the Indian secret-keeper. Many feared that Chappell might “leak out” crucial Indian details to the Australians that might give them the edge. That never happened and now with this fresh slew of allegations, Chappell’s anger looks justified.

Chappell has made it clear that he is not interested in India or Indian cricket anymore. He has explicitly mentioned that he does not want to deal with RCA in any manner from now. On being asked to reciprocate on Sehwag’s comments, Chappell said, “My life has taken a new turn and I do not wish nor can I afford to get involved in any public controversies.”

Last heard, Former Indian Paceman Javagal Srinath has accused Chappell to be the reason for India’s failure in 2007 World Cup. Cricket360 hopes peace prevails soon in the cricket arena.

Aussies find it very difficult to keep any secret that might help them shine a
little bit brighter. Chappell is no different. He just couln't miss the
opportunity to glorify himself or make a others look stupid.

They keep their
own secrets very well though.
