Paceman S Sreesanth is back with a bang. After being out of action for nearly a year because of back problems, he made an impressive comeback with the Duleep trophy and is now raring to go. Almost exaggerating his performance at the
Chinnaswamy Stadium, as he called his spells that fetched him three wickets as a “confidence-booster,” Sreesanth can never have enough of his own on-field antics. During one of the deliveries in the later half of the day, he almost stopped in his run-way before leaping into his delivery stride. Guess that comes naturally when you dance and act a lot on TV while sitting out of team.
“As I am coming back from injury and this is my second first class match this season, I am basically testing myself here. I had a long run-up to push myself physically and though I have not fully got my rhythm, I am slowly getting there and I am happy with some of my spells here today,” said Sreesanth as he displayed some instances of genuine swing.
After being rehabilitated at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for his back problem, Sree has been declared fit now. He played his last for India in the third test against South Africa in April 2008 in Kanpur and is now looking forward to the New Zealand tour in March. He expresses his happiness at the way the Indian team is doing great even in his absence as he says, "I am happy that everybody is doing well. Nobody is missing me there as they are bowling really well. I am happy for them."
Clearing the air around speculation over his exclusion from the squads for the Australian and South African home series, Sree adds, “I don't know about selection problems. I don't think that I could have been in the team in the series I missed out. But I think I am bowling well now and hoping for the New Zealand tour. But all depends on the selectors and (captain)
Dhoni."
And lest all his claims of being fit and ready for the game be seen as another Sreesanth gimmick, he quickly appends, "I don't want to enforce myself (to the selectors). I don't want to be in the team just for the sake of playing, I want to give off my best for the team," he said.
