Aussie Cricketer Andrew Symonds has a positive talent for putting both feet into his mouth while at the same time shooting it off. No stranger to cricket controversies in international cricket, his recent exploit of labeling New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum “a lump of shit” is beyond the pale. His words were quite inexcusable being spoken about a fellow cricketer and said on air in a radio chat show, which have caused the press of his own country to refer to him as a ‘Boofhead’ and as a ’33 year old problem child’.
Symmo remarks about the Kiwi player, calling him “a lump of shit; sorry lump of cow dirt” has obviously caused his captain
Ricky Ponting to seek an explanation for his uncalled-for and indefensible behavior. Symmo was peeved that New South Wales called on McCullum to play for the Twenty20 final over the weekend calling this action ‘Un-Australian’.
As and by way of an explanation / apology, Symmo the king of
Cricket Controversies, has said, “My intentions for this interview were light-hearted and my comments no way reflect the respect that I have for McCullum both on and off the field. I understand how this has been received differently to the way in which I intended to express myself and for that I am extremely sorry," Cricket360.com does wonder how the world ‘lump of shit’ can be meant in a light-hearted manner and how they could be construed as anything but horribly rude and derogatory.
This time, International Cricket’s big bad boy has clearly crossed the line and Sorry simply does not cover it!
Cricket360 would like to see how the Cricket Australia deals with this latest gaffe now, which does not even have the excuse of having been provoked in anyway by the player in question.
Among the more glaring blunders Symmo has made in international cricket, he has been involved in a bar brawl; he has gone fishing when he should have been attending a compulsory players’ meet in Darwin. That he has an issue with alcohol abuse is well known; for this and other reasons the Aussie has been undergoing counseling since September of last year. Not that the counseling has had a sobering effect on the brilliant but seemingly unbalanced cricketer. He wasted no time in rushing from one to another cricket controversy, having just been cleared of misdemeanor in the bar brawl case.
