Pakistani players who are participating in the Indian Cricket League have initiated legal action against the Pakistani cricket board for having banned those players who have participated in the ICL from both domestic cricket as well as international cricket. Chairman of the PCB, Ijaz Butt in fact wants that the banned players should once again be allowed to play International and domestic cricket. "We don't want our players to be banned because they have contracts with the ICL. But unfortunately we can't do anything unless the ICC changes its stance on this issue." said the PCB chairman.
Pakistan Cricket is at this time in an unenviable position: there are inter se squabbles between players, between players and the Pakistan Cricket Board, the players themselves coming under the scanner for drug abuse, the Pakistani players not performing too well or winning too many matches… the list goes on. There does not seem to be much to cheer about in Pakistan’s international cricket scene right now! According to a Pak daily, ‘There is something rotten in the state of Pakistani cricket”! Ominous words, but at this time, not inaccurate! And now there is one more cricket controversy to add to the troubles of beleaguered Pakistani cricket: the Pakistani players who are participating in the Indian Cricket League have initiated legal action against the Pakistani cricket board. The Players are now suing the PCB for having banned those players who have participated in the ICL from both domestic cricket as well as international cricket. Thru their lawyer, Fakhruddin Ibrahim, the banned ICL players have served a notice upon the PCB, calling upon the board to explain the legal provisions within which the PCB was purporting to act. Now comes the interesting part: Cricket360.com reports that the PCB has not banned the players of their own volition, but done so because of the policy of the ICC. It is the policy of the International Cricket Council that caused PCB to ban its players; which policy of the ICC the PCB wants should be changed. It is small wonder that the PCB would be anxious to see the infusion of some talent into the Pakistani team; whose performance at present is hardly something to cheer about. After all the loss of some of the Pak team’s front line players to the ban has to be irking the fans of Pak cricket as well as the PCB especially in light of their current poor showing. Cricket360 will be sure to report any change in the ICC stance on this issue; stay tuned.
