A great honor for the world of cricket - Padma Shri for Dhoni and Bhajji! But is the honor justified? Cricket360 tells you why these two players deserve the award.

When you do a job for your country as big as earning an Olymoic gold medal for a medal starved nation, you are only expected for this and Abhinav Bindra has got just that - he has been selected for one of the most coveted State Honors, Padma Bhushan. But, how the nation can forget her cricket heroes who time and again give the nation moments of rejoice and celebration! What does it matter if it has been only once that the Indians have got the World Cup cricket title? It has been the cricket players with their international records and huge cricket scores who made the nation proud time and again.

The Twenty first century Team India, Dhoni’s team India, brought the country the world title of the new genre of cricket - it was under his leadership, that India won her first Twenty-20 World Cup Cricket title in 2007. As this Cricket360 reporter feels, Rajiv Khel Ratna award seems to be inadequate for the captain of today’s Indian cricket team, who successfully led his boys in two successive series against Australia and England and brought the team in the threshold of a new era, where Indians can throw challenge to the number one Test team in international cricket and plays key role in toppling them from the topper’s seat. Also he was the first Indian cricketer to grab the coveted number one slot in ICC’s ODI ranking in 2008. And so no wonder Dhoni has been chosen with other celebrities for receiving Padma Shri award from the hands of Pratibha Patil this year.

India’s off-spinner Harbhajan Singh’s cap is also no short of feathers - he managed to bag some 314 wickets from seventy four Test matches. His ODI career is no less illustrious - spanning over a career of 180 matches, Bhajji managed to send the player on the other side of the crease as many as 202 times.

Cricket and cricket players always features greatly in the Indian psyche and no wonder this years’ Padma Shri list includes two cricket personalities in the list of total four sport personalities selected for the award. However, Cricket360.com always tells you that in India, cricket and Bollywood go hands in hand and so when Dhoni and Bhajji receives the honor from the President, they will have three Bollywood stars in the audience - who also feature in Padma Shri conferment list -  clap for them and they are Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar and Udit Narayan.
