There is now a possibility that the errant Symonds may receive only a fine and a reprimand instead of a ban and rehab for his offensive words against Brendan McCullum as originally thought. It seems that having lost the winning habit, the Aussie team, in particular the captain Ricky Ponting and Selection Chief Andrew Hilditch are feeling the lack of match winners in their team and want Symonds back. If this is true and if Symonds does indeed get off with a fine and reprimand and if he does indeed get picked for the South African tour, this will reflect extremely badly on Cricket Australia.
Cricket360 reported yesterday that Andrew Symonds would be going back to rehab for his latest cricket controversy imbroglio of calling New Zealand wicketkeeper, Brendon McCullum names. Now however, Cricket360 is shocked to learn that far from getting the kind of punishment that the Aussie cricketer so richly deserves, he is likely to be picked for the team that will be touring South Africa soon! It appears that the current lack of form of a lot of the Aussie players may well turn the tide in favour of Symonds. There is now a possibility that the errant Symonds may receive only a fine and a reprimand instead of a ban and rehab as originally thought. It seems that having lost the winning habit, the Aussie team, in particular the captain Ricky Ponting and selection chief Andrew Hilditch are feeling the lack of match winners in their team and want Symonds back. How very convenient! If this is true and if Symonds does indeed get off with a fine and reprimand and if he does indeed get picked for the South African Tour, this will reflect extremely badly on Cricket Australia. The message sent out will be that expediency rather than a desire to see justice being done or the desire to send out a message of intolerance for bad behaviour in international cricket is the priority for Cricket Australia right now! Sounds like they want to win at all costs and that the Aussies are scared of the kind of defeat that they suffered at the hands of the Indians when they toured without the aid of Symonds. There are however voices being raised against the inclusion of Symonds in the Aussie team with Ian Chappell, former Australian Test captain, saying in a radio interview: “‘It’s fine for Ricky Ponting to be saying he’ll take Andrew Symonds back but, in the shape he’s in at the moment, he’s going to be a hell of a distraction to the team.” He went on to say “You’ve got to face up to the fact you’ve got a problem before you can fix it. I don’t know what’s been going on with the counseling, but … I certainly haven’t heard anything public from Andrew saying, ‘Look I have a bit of a problem here.’” We at Cricket360.com will keep you posted about further developments in this particular cricket controversy.
