One of the most vocal critics of the Pakistan government as well as Pakistan cricket, Former Pak Cricket Captain Imran Khan made a statement lambasting both; saying the situation in game of cricket was as in much of a ‘mess’ as the country. Imran takes particular exception at the manner in which the Chairman of the PCB is appointed. In Pakistan it is the President himself who has appointed the Chairman, Ijaz Butt, whereas ordinarily this post in filled by an elected representative. "No way should the president of the country appoint the cricket chief," said Khan.
One of the most vocal critics of the Pakistan government as well as Pakistan cricket, Former Pak Cricket Captain Imran Khan made a statement lambasting both; saying the situation in game of cricket was as in much of a ‘mess’ as the country. Cricket360.com brings you a Cricket Special Report. Addressing his remarks to President Asif Ali Zardari, Imran was quoted in the cricket news as saying "If Zardari really wants to help Pakistan cricket then he must allow it to be an institution. It should be constitution-based and have an elected chairman with elected representatives." Imran seems to be of the same mind as we at Cricket360, who think that the state of Pakistani cricket is far from good. Far from concentrating on organizing and facilitating forthcoming series, the Pakistan cricket board seems to be mired in politics and other extraneous considerations. It has long been Imran’s complaint that the game of cricket is not well organized in Pakistan. “Why can't Pakistan cricket be based on successful models like Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, where the talent is concentrated in six regional teams set up by nurseries below?" he queried. Reacting to the breaking cricket news of President Zardari’s proposal to hold round table conferences to address the issues that plague Pak cricket, Imran said "Cricket is run on an ad hoc basis in the country, so the president is now suggesting a round-table conference without knowing that the previous regime of Nasim Ashraf wasted millions on such conferences to no avail." As the only Pak Captain to lead a Pakistani Team to World Cup Victory; Imran perhaps felt justified in saying that the Pakistani team has been going steadily downhill, with no hope in sight. "Ever since the 1992 World Cup win and the 1999 runner-up finish, the performance graph is having a downhill trajectory. In 2003 and 2007, we were ousted in the first rounds," he said.
