Opportunities to hold international tournaments of any sports, more so of the sports as popular as cricket are manna from the heaven for the organizers, as it automatically improves the balance sheet of the host nation in a big way feels Cricket360. Pakistan therefore must be feeling rather aghast that it has been forced to rescind this opportunity to host the 2009 Champions Trophy. The denial has been on account of the decision arrived at by International Cricket Council, and it has been forced to take this decision on account of security considerations.
ICC announced this decision on Sunday, and informed that it has been forced to take this decision as apprehensions have been expresses by several of the eight teams which were slated to compete in the limited over cricket tournament, already rescheduled, that had been given in the first instance to Pakistan. Sub-continent has been a venue that has single handedly been instrumental in giving the cricket a global presence, on account of the spread of the aficionados around the world. According to Cricket360.com, the frenzy that has been created by the limited version of the game, more so of the 20-20 varieties, has evinced interest from the citizens of country like USA as well. Another significant decision that ICC has taken in its meeting is to overrule the result of 2006 test between England and Pakistan at Oval, England, restoring the win to England instead of a draw. This could create another round of controversy in the cricketing world feels Cricket360. While decision about rescinding conduct of Champions Trophy at Pakistan was taken by the board, it is yet to announce an alternate venue to conduct this tournament. The board also arrived at the decision about the venues for 2010 20-20 World Cup in West Indies. ICC again informed that the sense of worry among the members of the cricketing fraternity to visit Pakistan continues to be a worry area for ICC as the teams that expressed apprehensions including Australia, England and New Zealand' reluctance has meant that the second biggest tournament after the World Cup, Champions Trophy, continues to hang in limbo, though it has been twelve months since the previous Champions Trophy was held. Haroon Lorgat, Chief Executive, ICC in a statement said, " It is unfortunate that ICC Champions Trophy will not take place in Pakistan due to circumstances completely beyond the control of the Pakistan Cricket Board".
