Pak Court Lifts Ban on ICL Players Print E-mail

Coming in the wake of decision being taken by ICC about advising the BCCI to reconcile the difference between IPL and ICL in India, the firm decision awarded by the Sindh High Court in Pakistan could be a shot in the arm for the beleaguered players of Pakistan who have been playing in ICL for some time.

It was a sigh of relief for the players from Pakistan as it has ensured that the players can continue to play in ICL without any objection from the Pakistan Cricket Board. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had imposed a ban on the players who had participated in the ICL from playing any tournament in the domestic circuit in Pakistan.

For a country like Pakistan where cricket is the path to success, and to get out of the economic problems, that the country is besotted with, the ban on playing in the domestic league would have meant the death of their career. ICL was able to provide them the visibility, but to reach to the levels of ICL the performance is needed. This performance can only come from playing in domestic cricket. The decision to allow the players to play in the domestic cricket in Pakistan was awarded by Justice Amir Hani Muslim who suspended the ban.

It is to the credit of ICL that they appointed a lawyer to argue for the players of Pakistan who were playing in the ICL. The lawyer of ICL Zahid Fakhr Ibrahim informed that the next hearing on the matter would be taken up February 10. While it may be a small victory, as the players have fortunes may hang in limbo after February 10 as well, the decision in itself has a great bearing. The courts are sensitive to the cause of the players, as also about the future of players, therefore they have decided to take a proactive decision.

Can this decision have a bearing on the future of ICL in India? Jurisprudence in a country otherwise does not take into account the decisions in other countries, but in issues which can have an international bearing, this decision could have the effect. Cricket360 is of the view that this decision by Sindh High Court may have a bearing on the scuffle between IPL and ICL in India and it could have an ominous portent.  Cause of cricket and of the public can be served by this decision in the long run.
