Australian captain Ricky Ponting received a scare when practicing in the nets at Nottingham, when he got hit by a ball on his right wrist which has been a matter of concern for a long time. Ponting had undergone surgery on his wrist last year. The injury however has been declared not serious and as was reported in the cricket news, Ponting will be back in action soon.

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting spoke in the cricket news warning England against playing ‘half fit’ Andrew Flintoff in the Ashes series later this summer. Ponting also offered covert criticism regarding the decision of some of England’s international cricket stars such as Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen to participate in the Indian Premier League which he had himself eschewed supposedly in order rest ahead of the summer.

Justin Langer now plays for Somerset having retired from international cricket, but he remembers a time when the Aussies had arrived into England to play the Ashes with a lot more fanfare than they did on Thursday. Ricky Ponting and his men will be in England for some very considerable amount of time; for the T20 World Cup as well as the subsequent Ashes series.

Cricket WAGS Lara Bingle and Lee Furlong decided to give the much anticipated pre-Ashes seminar for the WAGS a miss. The camp was to be held on the Sunshine Coast. The wives and girlfriends of all 25 contracted Australian cricketers — especially the 16 to tour England — were invited to sessions overseen by Relationships Australia. The beach resort training camp was a move to reduce the stress due to long-distance relationships during this summer's Ashes.
