Indian subcontinent fascination for foreign coachesPosted by schikara in Untagged |
A fad is just sweeping by the Indian subcontinent with recruiting foreign coaches for their national teams. But the key question is to determine if they really needed. India which has breed one of the best cricketers in the world, many of whom are worth of the job but it seems the trend seems to be that foreign counter parts will do a better job than local recruits.
But remember that these coaches are commissioned for only a certain number of years and once they are let go and go back to their national teams they take away the valuable insider information with them. Greg Chappell is a primary example who coached India for several years and then moved back to coach Australia. In the current 2008 series he is coaching Australia and for sure is polishing Australia’s winning strategy by exposing the areas to exploit. It is highly unlikely that Australia will ever employ foreign coaches. I think it boils down to fostering your local talent and then believing in them.
