With so many players in international cricket facing the quandary of choosing between playing for the national team and playing for the Indian Premier League and its riches, the question is now brought into sharp focus: What is more important for a player; the pride of representing your country, or playing for money. What has also instigated this debate is the fact of Andrew Flintoff fitting a few weeks of IPL playing in an already hectically packed schedule and getting injured in the bargain. This was seen as an unseemly chasing of riches by many in the cricket news, particularly in the UK.

Have you noticed that there is something missing from the IPL; apart from all the things we have spoken of before? Well it is the cricket commentators that are missing! The game of cricket which was for long known as a relic of colonial days, a leftover of the Raj has now assumed a distinctly Indian flavour. Not only is it that the IPL which has become the richest and most famous of tournaments in international cricket, that was born in India, cricket has become tremendously Indianised since the days when it was a colonial sport and the BCCI has become the most powerful cricket board in the world.
