Indian Cricket League seems to have decided that enough is enough and is now embarking upon its Mission Impossible to change the pariah status that it has acquired after the International Cricket Council refused to intercede in the matter. IPL and ICL have been at loggerheads, and the BCCI is literally hounding the ICL out of every country and is flexing its arms to see to it that the players and associated officials who have been associated with the ICL are not given any recognition by any cricket board across the globe. ICL had earlier appealed to the ICC to intervene and thrash out the issue but ICC decided not to do so, and passed on the buck to BCCI advising them to settle the matter between ICL and IPL at its own level.
Subhash Chandra, who owns the Indian Cricket League, has decided that he would not take the things lying down and would not let the cricket league promoted by him just wilt under. With this objective, a decision has been taken to sue the International Cricket Council in the Court of Law if the governing body of the ICC rejects its application to accord ICL the official recognition. It seems to be a pressure tactics to precipitate the issue as the Executive Board of ICC is going to meet on April 17 and 18 in Dubai to take a call on allowing ICL to stage unofficial cricket. The issue that is become a bone of contention and is the trigger for contemplation about legal action is the nomenclature of "rebel" that has stuck with ICL. ICL has also disclosed that the ICL season-3 would take place in 'October-November 2009. The ICL 20-20 Domestic Tournament and conditioning camp would precede it, for its players. This announcement seems to have been made so that a view may not develop that the ICL has now become a part of the history. It was also informed by the ICL Business Head that they have been sounded out by the BCCI to bring down the curtains on ICL, and instead become a franchisee of an IPL team. The moot point is whether ICL authorities would like to undertake this transformation from being an organizer of a tournament to being owner of a team, as it would be degradation in the status.
