It may well be that Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are the best pair of opening batsmen in the world right now, and what is also true is that they currently are also a mutual admiration society. VVS Laxman has also expressed his high degree of satisfaction with the recently concluded tour of New Zealand from the team as well as his own point of view. Meanwhile maestro Sachin Tendulkar has credited Gary Kirsten with creating a team environment that is conducive to performing well and winning.

In the melee of history being created by India defeating New Zealand after more than forty years, one personal front was conquered by the Indian Captain as well. Dhoni has surpassed the record of Syed Kirmani, of having claimed maximum victims in an innings. Kirmani had pocketed 6 victims in an innings, and now Dhoni has broken his record by claiming seven victims in an innings. Would now Kirmani change his views about Dhoni's ability as a wicketkeeper?

According to winning captain M S Dhoni, winning a test series in New Zealand after 40 years was a daunting benchmark and one that would have to be lived up to. On the other hand Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori was of the view that his team lost an excellent opportunity to capitalise on the score of the first day of the third match which they could have gone on to win and thereby level the series. The historic series win, which did not get the Indian team any higher on the ICC test rankings, did however fetch each of the Indian players a handsome Rs 15 lakh bonus from the BCCI.

The recently concluded cricket series where the Indian team toured New Zealand was marked by great cricket and perhaps even greater cordiality. Both, the players as well as the spectators and cricket fans of the host country made the Indian visitors feel welcome and highly appreciated. If former Kiwi all rounder and skipper Richard Hadlee ranked Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman ever, then current Kiwi captain, Daniel Vettori has said that this current Indian team is the best ever.

Review of the fifth day of the third and final test between India and New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday. The match ended in a draw after bad weather forced a premature end to the day’s play. India were short of 2 wickets for a 2-0 series victory. Ross Taylor’s centurion effort saved the day for New Zealand.
